La Chamba / Salt Bowl
Handmade in Colombia, La Chamba is a range of unique and organic tableware centred on a tradition reaching over 700 years. Each piece is hand formed from coarse dark grey clay and finer terracotta clay is then applied in a thin layer over the entire surface as a glaze. After drying, the surface is polished with semi-precious stones such as Tigers Eye. This time and skill spent polishing gives each item its natural patina and distinctive satin finish. After baking in the sun the items are placed in large earth kilns for firing which changes the terracotta surface to black.
